An unfair game for the frequent critic Ted Cruz
Well, Ted Cruz is no good! Time and again, Ted Cruz has acted as a frequent critic of Obama; sometimes denoting him as a an absolute socialist and sometimes blaming him playing the major role as the world’s leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism owing to the 2015 international nuclear agreement with Iran. Being a sitting senator and running as a candidate for the United States 2016 Presidential elections, these comments of Ted Cruz were highly criticized. As well said by Benjamin Franklin, “The people heard it, approved the doctrine, and immediately practiced the contrary.” Ted Cruz blasted at the Washington post for releasing the cartoon depicting his two daughters, Caroline, 7, and Catherine, 4, as dancing monkeys and Ted Cruz as the organ grinder dressed as Santa Claus holding the strings. Undoubtedly, children are usually kept away from the editorial section; however, Ann Telnaes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, fortified her decision to imitate Cruz and his children. She is of the view that if the girls can make an appearance in the, “Ted Cruz Christmas Classics”, then definitely they fall in the fair game category. In this 90- minute Christmas Parody video, coupled with her father’s dramatic embellishment, the elder one reads a edited passage of the Christmas Classic. Well, with the video that ran live in the Saturday Night Live with around 1.5 million views, the children featured in this video definitely makes the people think that they are being used as political props.
Owing to the controversial responses received on the carton, the Washington Post retracted it with an editor’s note from Fred Hiatt, denoting that this is not their editorial policy to include children and that he missed to look at this cartoon before it was published. Now, the thing that Obama also made his daughters a part of the campaign but he never faced such a thing is the next big question. “Is Ted Cruz overplaying his family card?”. The fact that he wants his daughters off limits; they should not have been seen, heard, and used at all.
Regardless of your plans of contesting in the elections, kids should always be kept off limits. It was definitely neither appropriate for Obama’s daughters to be part of the campaign, nor is it now for Ted Cruz as well. Including children and trying to play the family card is not something that good politicians are expected to carry out. Moreover, certainly you cannot be good leaders if you are setting political targets by strategically using your children.
Ted Cruz frequently mentions about his two daughters in his speeches, which also regularly mockeries attention of Ted Cruz in leading national publications like the Post and The New York Times. Social media definitely helps the politicians reach large numbers of voters in a short amount of time and considered as the most effective means. Image and appearance are both important in such campaigns and help gain easy votes if used smartly. In any case, children as political props are definitely not a political scene any one would like to see. Before being politicians, they are parents!
