At an early age of 13, Amancio Ortega Gaona started working in a clothing shop in La Coruña. By early twenties, he was making women’s bathrobes with his siblings and partner Rosalia Mera, whom he later married.

Thus, he organizing women into sewing cooperatives. Their initial product line included lingerie, baby wear, and nightgowns. Having acquired ten years of amazing experience of managing sewing cooperatives, he proceeded to establish Amancio Ortega Gaona first company, Confecciones GOA, S.A in 1963.
Amancio Ortega Gaona opened his first Zara store with his wife Rosalía Mera I 1975. Currently, Zara is a part of the Industrias de Diseño Textil Sociedad Anónima ( popularly known as the Inditex group), of which Amancio Ortega Gaona owns 59.29%. Apart from that there are 6,000 stores of this group in total and this list includes the marvelous brands like Zara, Massimo Dutti, Tempe, Stradivarius, Pull and Bear, Bershka, Oysho, Zara Home, Kiddy’s Class. Currently, the Inditex group has more than 92,000 employees all over the world.
Rosalía Mera, his first wife is known to be his first business partner. In 2001, he married Flora Pérez Marcote.
