58th Annual Grammy Awards
#Cosmoread: The 58th annual Grammy Awards were held on February 15, 2016. This ceremony, which is dedicated, recognizes the outstanding recordings, compositions, and artists of the year (Oct 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015) were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Nominations were earlier announced in December 2015. Kendrick Lamar, the popular American Rapper, received the most number of nominations. He won five Grammys, including the award for the best album, to pimp a butterfly. Other notable nominations included Album of the year and song of the year. The 2016 Grammy awards function saw the renowned and ravishingly beautiful singer and songwriter, Taylor Swift, take home the honor for the second best album and the award for the best record. It is worth mentioning that Swift was named the Billboard’s Women of the year in 2014, thus becoming the first artist to be awarded this title twice. It was a grand moment when Swift’s name was announced, and she got up from her seat, walked to Kendrick Lamar and gave him a friendly hug. She then got up to the stage and proudly spoke on the theme of female artists and the ongoing challenges they often have to face in the industry.
Album Of The Year
“As the first woman to win album of the year twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undermine your success or who will try to take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, But if you just focus on the work, and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you are going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world”, she said in her very inspiring speech at the ceremony.
Dance Hit By Mark Ronson & Marswas
The dance hit by Mark Ronson and Bruno Marswas awarded as the record of the year. The song Uptown funk was also commercial success globally, retaining its number one position on the on the US Billboard Hot 100 for fourteen consecutive weeks in addition to seven non-consecutive weeks in UK Singles Chart. This song has also topped the charts in numerous other countries including Australia, France, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland.
The nominations at the Grammys echoed gender and race diversity but some of the observers were a bit worried about the fact that Taylor Swift winning the major awards at the show would trigger criticism of the recording academy.
Paying tributes to talented musicians who are no more with us has been a part of this ceremony. This year, as well, the ceremony paid homage to David Bowie ( Lady Gaga), Glenn Frey (Jackson Browne and members of the Eagles), B.B. King (Bonnie Raitt, Chris Stapleton and Gary Clarke Jr.) and Motorhead front man Lemmy Kilmister (Hollywood Vampires along with Alice cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry).
This ceremony was presented live by CBS.
