The Sun is one of many stars that can be found in the solar system, except that it is the biggest. It has a very huge size and covers 98 percent of the overall size of the solar system. With an average rotation of twenty five days at the equator, and thirty six days at the poles the Sun is really big.
It has a diameter of 1,392,000 kilometer and is 109 times the total size of Earth. The Sun is divided into three major parts, and is made up of hydrogen mass and the rest is helium and other types of gasses. The Sun orbits the galactic core approximately 25,000 light years and makes a complete revolution every 250,000 years.
Inside the Sun, there are 3 basic elements which are a Core, Radiative and Convective zones. The centre is called the core, and a great energy is made here through a process that is referred to as nuclear fusion. This energy is then transferred to the closest zone called the Radiative zone. The Radiative zone makes up eighty five percent of the Sun\’s radius.
Staying next to the Radiative zone is the Convective zone. The space it occupies makes up 15 percent of the entire surface of the Sun. Through a process called convection, energy rises from the core all the way to this zone.
The layer of the Sun that can be seen outside is called the photosphere and its temperature is six thousand degrees Celsius. It looks like it is always molting because of the unrest created as a result of internal eruptions.
The photosphere is called the Sun\’s surface because it consists of photons that do break out into space. The thickness is about five hundred km and not an everyday thing that can be seen using the eyes only. It is severely hot and very gaseous.
The next area close to the Photosphere is Chromosphere. When energy emanates from the core, it moves through the Photosphere unto the Chromosphere. There are hydrogen clouds that forms at the top of it and is referred to as Faculae.
According to studies, the Sun has been very active for about 4.6 billion years and will be here for another 5 billion years. The studies also show that the Sun will transform in its last days and fuse helium into elements that are heavier. It will grow big to the point where it will overcome the Earth. After that, when a billion years is elapsed, it will collapse into a white dwarf and may endure an extra trillion years to become cool and finally fade into what is known as a black dwarf.
