Muscle of the mind: how T-Rex dinosaurs became king

#Cosmoread: Size dinosaur skull of a horse, a distant relative of Tyrannosaurus rex heavy, dominated millions of years shows that braininess behind the rise of the animal was before.

Dinosaur fossil, discovered in the woods of Uzbekistan, suggesting that early tyrannosaurs were small animals, they had advanced brain, study lead researcher Steve Brusatte, a paleontologist at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom said. These apex predators keen mind tyrannosaurs are likely to help the last 20 million years of age when dinosaurs evolved into the largest animals.

“Before they got older Tyrannosaurs smart, and right at the end time of the dinosaurs has grown quickly,” Brusatte said.

T-Rex’s family

T-Rex is well known, but little is known about his family tree. Tyrannosaurs about 170 million years ago, originated in the Middle Jurassic, but they are mostly small, for the time dinosaurs were human-sized horse. 20 million year gap in the fossil record, it’s a mystery how long these top predators smaller tyrannosaurs have been infected with marginal hunters, the researchers said in the study.

The new sample is filled is the key difference. Archaeologist and study co-authors Alexander and Hans Sue Averianov Tyrannosaur fossil

s discovered in northern Uzbekistan’s Kyzylkum desert. They introduced species, Timurlengia euotica designated dated about 90 million years ago, to the Middle Cretaceous. During that time, Uzbekistan and desertlike would have been warm, but also forests, rivers and lakes, the researchers said.

“In developing a mysterious middle Cretaceous time because of the very few places to land-living fossils known,” St. Petersburg State University in Russia Averianov, said in a statement. “Uzbekistan is one of these places. Tyrannosaurs the early development of many groups in the mid-Cretaceous took place in the coastal plains of Central Asia.”

Paleontologist’s vertebrae, a number of fossils including teeth and claws open. But Tyrannosaur the braincase – the part of the skull that holds the brain – was, by far, the most important finding, he said. In fact, the researchers of theropods braincases (bipedal, meat-eating dinosaurs mostly) because of his experience with the study together with Brusatte.

A computer tomography (CT) scans use, the researchers found that only a horse’s size and potential euotica T weighed about 550 pounds may be. (250 kg) – a pip-squeak 9 tons (8 metric tons) compared to T-Rex – but your brain and senses were highly developed.

“This is a very advanced brain, is actually advanced senses,” Brusatte said.

CT scan showed that the T euotica the cochlea in the inner ear of a long, low frequency sounds which would have enabled it heard.

“Potential victims to hear low-frequency sounds, from a long distance can be allowed, but only in general is better,” Brusatte said. “Tyrannosaurs than almost any other type of dinosaur in hearing low-frequency sounds were better.”

Scientists digitally scan of the dinosaurs within his skull, sinus, nerves and blood vessels allowed to resurface. “It turns out that T-Rex, as it is basically the same type of brain that, just small, Brusatte said.
The rest of the skeleton is also provided clues about T euotica.

“Timurlengia thin, suitable for slicing through flesh with bladelike teeth for a clever hunter,” the lawsuit, in Washington, DC at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History curator of vertebrate paleontology, the statement said. “It’s probably different large plant eaters, especially early duck bill dinosaurs who preyed share your world.”
