Getting hitched can be one of the most difficult periods in the life of anyone. However before you make the big commitment it is also the norm to have one last big party. In England and Scotland this is usually known as a hen party.
A hen party involves the bride gathering together a group of her closest friends and arranging an activity. For some people this can be just one night out, for others some kind of daytime event and increasingly some people devote an entire weekend to their so called last night of freedom.
When arranging a hen party the bride will typically decide on a theme for the event. Then she will communicate the theme to all the attendees and everyone will come along in some sort of costume that fits the theme. For instance, at the moment army fancy dress for women is a very popular theme for hen nights. This involves everyone dressing up in some kind of military style costume.
Hen group tend to find that they are the centre of attention on nights out in any typical town. This is usually because they stand out a mile in their crazy outfits. Hen parties are also known as being up for a laugh so people will often try to strike up a conversation with them in order to share the fun.
When getting ready for your hen night there are some things you must plan carefully before the event. You should have a think about what kind of costumes you will ask everyone to wear. Be sure it is something that all the attendees can join in with and it is not a theme that anyone will take umbrage with. Also think about the best location to hold the party. It must be in a place that is easily reachable by everyone and that try and make sure it is not too expensive. It is always a good practice to ask the opinion of the people who you are meaning to invite to the hen party before making any firm bookings. This will prevent last minute cancellations and disappointments for those coming along.
