With the help of the wonderful people at M.D. Anderson, I intend to fight it hard. I am grateful to all my beloved readers, my friends, and my family for their prayers. Conroy published his first novel in 1976 called “The Great Santini, in which he writes about the story of a son named Ben who is abused, dominated and tortured by his marine fighter pilot father, Colonel “Bull” Meecham. According to sources, the character in the story is based on Conroy’s father, Donald, and it is said that he was even worse than the character in the novel. This Novel created a lot of friction within his own family, as his family believed that he disclosed the family secrets by writing about their father. This novel, even somehow was the reason for the failure of his first marriage. However, this book also helped mend the relationship crack between him and his father, who later tried to prove that he was not like the character mentioned in the novel. In the Lords of Discipline, Conroy portrayed the campus life, which was the reason of disappointment among many of his fellow graduates at The Citadel, who believed that the portrayal done by Conroy was extremely faultfinding. Both of these novels, in addition to the Prince of Tides, have been transformed into hit movies.
Married for three times, he now lives with his third wife, Cassandra King, who is also an author of four popular novels.
