I am not a picky shopper. When I want something, I find an affordable option and make the purchase. I don\’t save up coupons or make all the big Thanksgiving Day sales. However, after my recent nightmare experience shopping for a blender, I have become an avid reader of product reviews before buying.
I have never had such a bad experience buying something! That goes for online or through a traditional store, too. All I wanted was the mid-range model of blender I had picked out. It was a brand I knew and trusted.
I\’m not a chef and don\’t have a family to feed, but I enjoy making smoothies for myself. I\’ve experimented with making my own hummus and creamy soups, too. When my blender broke, I set to buying a new one right away.
The problems first began with the delivery time. My order confirmation said it would arrive on Thursday at the latest but Monday afternoon is when it finally made it to my house. Four days late and I had paid extra! It ended up showing up the same time it would have had I chosen regular shipping and handling.
Inside the cardboard shipping box, the blender was, just as advertised, new in the box. I set it up right away and started preparing a savory winter squash soup for my dinner. I read the directions to make sure I didn\’t put too much food at once in my beautiful new blender.
The moment I hit the blend button, however, there was a puff of black smoke and a smell of burning plastic. Upon inspection, the electrical cord was scorched and melted right at the point where it connects to the back of the blender.
I was a little shaken at first. I\’m not used to having electrical fires in my kitchen on a casual Monday afternoon! I unplugged the blender from the wall to be safe and then started making a different dish for my meal, giving the smoking blender evil looks while cooking.
I was able, within a few weeks, to get all my money reimbursed, including the expedited shipping charges. I had to send the broken product back but the seller covered that cost, too.
During this time, I at some point when and read the original ad. Sure enough, everyone who had worked with this seller in particular had reported a bad buying experience. The product reviews said that the model of blender worked great so it was just the seller at fault. Though I got my money back, that hardly covered the hassle and stress of the experience. The best thing to come out of this, though, is that I am a more careful shopper!
