When Aamir Khan became the Santa for Progeria patient Nihar
It was a dream come true for Nihar Bitla when Aamir visted him. Well, Aamir was no less than the Santa Claus for Nihar this year. Nihar is a 14- year old kid suffering from a rare disease called Progeria.
Progeria Syndrome is a rare, deadly genetic condition described by an appearance of faster aging in children. Having derived the name from a Greek word meaning prematurely old, this disorder occurs due to the cellular instability thus leading to the process of prematuring aging. These children are born healthy but they start showing the signs of accelerated aging starting at the 18- 24 months of age.
Progeria signs include failure in growth, loss of body fat and hair, aged-looking skin, difficulty of joints, hip dislocation, generalized atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and stroke. The children also have a unusually similar appearance, despite different traditional backgrounds.
Nihar saw Taare Zammen Par and was highly inspired by the role played by Aamir. This movie explores the, life and unbounded imaginations of an eight-year-old dyslexic boy who excels in art, but his parents send him to boarding school owing to bad performance in academics. Aamir plays the role of an art teacher, named Ram Shankar Nikumbh and is quickly known and liked by the students of this school due to his unique style of teaching. The whole story revolves around how the art teacher identifies the disorder in the child and helps him overcome the constant pressure of studies and academic performance. He mentors the eight years old so diligently and differently that the boy soon develops an interest in language and mathematics, and his grades improve. This is definitely an inspirational movie and despite receiving critical reviews, the moviemakers received a lot of appreciation for this immensely wonderful story line. Nihar who has been earlier bullied by his school friends as they have called him by names “Auro”( character played by a Progeria patient in the move Paa) certainly appreciated the role of a mentor played by Aamir in the movie. He wanted to meet him since then. Now that, Aamir met with his little fan, he seems to be very happy too.
The actor recently had to face harsh waves of rude comments after he mentioned that he too feels the sense of insecurity and fear and is alarmed by the series of events happening in the country. He also mentioned that his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should probably leave the country. The star of Hindi films ‘Three Idiots’, ’PK’ and host of talk show Satyamev Jayate, which focuses on social and cultural issues impacting India, started trending on Twitter following his remarks, mainly with an attack of opposition over his standpoint. People started criticizing him publicly, including some Bollywood stars as well. This matter somewhat came to closure after Aamir released a statement on his official facebook page about how his comments in the interview have been distorted and that he is proud of his own country and he does not seek anyone’s permission to endorse that.
Looking at Aamir now meeting one of his Fans is indeed a noble act and appreciated. After people shouting obscenities at Aamir, this act of his has certainly made some space for some positive news about him.
Well, no matter what, it was definitely an early Christmas present for Nihar!
